Denver branch gives worker a second shot at success.

In Gerald Green’s mind, all he can do is do his best and hope that it will be enough to give him a second chance. "Hopefully one of these companies that I’m temping for will hire me," he said. "When I go to work, I work. I do the best I can. One day it’s going to pay off for me." It’s already paying some dividends. Because of his outstanding job performance and reliability, Gerard has landed a three-month temporary assignment with a local construction company through branch 1154 in Denver.

"I was not apprehensive at all about Gerald," said Branch Manager Mujaahid Maynard. "Many of Labor Ready's temporary workers have things in their history that cause employers not to consider them or disqualify them for permanent positions. Labor Ready provides an opportunity for them to prove themselves to potential employers in a temporary position and possibly gain permanent employment that they would not have been a candidate for initially."

Mujaahid said he gave Gerald the same chance he gives every temporary worker.

"I match these employees to the customers who are looking for long-term employees -- temporary or permanent -- who bring these practices to the table."

Gerald has become the lead person on his job site, directing all the workers who are moving furniture into a new JC Penneys.

"Gerald's performance spoke for itself," said Mujaahid. "He was extremely dependable and reliable from the first day he started with Labor Ready. He would take any assignment offered and put 100 percent into it. If there was a worker-related service issue with a customer, I would send Gerald the next day because I knew that he would regain the customer’s confidence. Gerald never had to speak on his performance because the customers did it for him. I can not count the number of times Gerald returned from work with a positive comment on his work ticket or received a phone call from a customer praising his performance."
